A brand new Golf GTI or a 2006 BMW M5 with around 1ok miles, assume they cost exactly the same, because they do.
On related news, the Captiva (Vue) has been restyled (new wheels and front lights) for this year, they want $40k for one, that is pure insanity. The only engine available here is the 2.4 now, what on earth is Brazilian Chevrolet thinking, who is going to pay that absurd price for a Captiva?!

M5 because glorious V10 sound.

Fire breathing v10 sedan capable of 200mph, or econobox with a bigger snail. Need I remind you how cheap gas is currently?

Fine, I'll add another option just for you: M5, GTI or for half the price you could have an ex-French Embassy armored Citroen C6.

Fully Agree

Here it's just getting more and more expensive.

That's why you should burn more while it's cheap. Imagine in 10 years how much fuel prices will be, you'll look back to now and be like "I should've experienced a car that actively wants to kill me."

But it's not cheap, I pay $4,6 per gallon, and I get 12 mpg.

I'll take the C6. If I leave out the unneeded armor (I live in the Netherlands...), could I keep the 205 GTi I already own?
![]() 01/19/2015 at 17:06 |

Yes. I assumed this WWYR thing was a "gun to your head, make a decision" kinda situation. I would also just keep my C5.

But with the m5 you can pay 4.6 a gallon and get 10 mpg but 500 hp and rwd. Also you get 10 cylinders of c02 to noise generation. I have a Honda pilot as my European car, $9 a gallon and 15 mpgs. No regrets as I love showing my massive American imperialist ideals over the Europeans in their tiny hatches.

Wildcard.
Cheaper (probably), made to order, full warranty.

Buy C6, buy wrecked M5, drop V10 into C6, enjoy !

Those aren't available here :(
We get no Mazdas

GTi.
because all cars are boring. Might as well have a winter beater that can carry parts
at least when compared to my normal mode of getting around.

Beach house? Go to the beach man!

Haha spent the whole day there, it's dark and cloudy now, might go out for some sushi.

I was at the beach last week. I wish I was back at the beach. Enjoy it!

I love me a good V10, trust me. But I wouldn't want to own a 10 year old German V10 beast. Too much of a gamble in terms of reliability and repairs. GTI all day. Though I may be a bit biased ;)

Remember, even if you're buying a car that used to cost $80k for significantly less, you'll still have the maintenance and repair costs of an $80k car.
Plus, it was driven 10k miles in 8 years, which breaks down (ha!) to 1,250 / yr or a bit over 100 / month. I would be extremely skeptical of something driven that little.
My vote is new GTI.

M5!
V10.
Manual.
Duh!

Those are 2 cars that I absolutely love.
I would only buy the M5 if I had twice as much money... the maintenance should be crazy expansive over here.

this is hard. To me at least.
I'd go responsible with the GTI, since the M5 is just too much of a gamble. I don't know about how things are in Brazil, but in Mexico shops that specialize on BMW's or European cars are basically non-existant. I wouldn't trust ANY mechanic with that engine, and it would bankrupt me.

I'm stupidly trust worthy about low mileage cars, in my mind there is nothing to go wrong about a car that has not been used a lot. We have specialized shops here, most of them were opened by BMW (Merc, Alfa, Landy, Jag) mechanics that were fired when dictatorship striked on imports.

Well, M5 it is!
Have you seen the video of the imbecile driving his M5 in Brazil through traffic racing Ferraris?

No, show me!
![]() 01/19/2015 at 21:53 |

Look at all his videos. I hate him too much to watch them again.

That happens quite a lot here, people buy these as weekend cars and never drive them, but I agree on that, maintenance won't be cheap, but with only 10k miles I can't really imagine anything major going wrong.
![]() 01/19/2015 at 23:32 |

But with only 10k miles I must imagine there isn't a lot to go wrong
